In the first week of March, we will be commemorating Durham’s international reach and influence by coming together for Durham Global Week. As part of this celebration, alumni and friends around the world, united by shared experiences and memories of Durham, will get together to celebrate their connection with the University at social events hosted by alumni, for alumni.
The event will include:
- Cycling Journey: Embark on a cycling adventure from Tianfu Square to Pengzhen, traversing Chengdu's urban and rural landscapes. This activity embodies the "Connection" theme by reuniting alumni in a shared experience, fostering bonds through collaborative travel and mutual support.
- Teahouse Exploration: Delve into Pengzhen's century-old teahouses, immersing in their rich historical atmosphere. This aligns with the "Culture" theme, as participants engage with teahouse owners and patrons to uncover the evolution and significance of these cultural hubs, which have long served as gathering places for community members.
- Tea Culture Experience: Sample authentic Sichuan teas, witness tea art performances, and receive a historical overview of Sichuan's tea culture. This further enriches the "Culture" aspect, showcasing the region's unique traditions and offering insights into tea cultivation, processing, and brewing practices.
Gain a deeper appreciation for local culture through hands-on experiences, from cycling through diverse landscapes to exploring historic teahouses and learning about tea traditions.
Create lasting connections among alumni, as shared experiences and discussions about university life and future aspirations foster a sense of belonging and support.
We look forward to seeing you there for a day of great conversation and community.
The event is free to attend and open to guests, but we kindly ask that you register your place to help with planning. Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the venue.
