boat club ball group shot

Last year Grey College Trust, funded by our alumni, supported the GCBC with a contribution towards a purchase of a new mens 8+, named after rowing enthusiast and previous Master of Grey College, Eric Halladay. The Club is in very good form and spirit, with a strong showing at recent events and at the annual GCBC Ball.

Grey College Boat Club had a good showing on a very windy day at Tyne United New Year’s Head. Both the men's and women’s squads sent one 8+ and one 4+, with the men’s 8+ finishing as the third-fastest college and the women’s 4+ finishing as the fastest college 4+. At Durham Small Boats Head, the club fielded an impressive nine crews. This included five men’s 4+, including an Alumni 4+, and the women sending three 4+ and one 2x. Notable results include the men’s first 4+ finishing in the middle of band two, the women dominating band three, and the alumni 4+ finishing not far behind the first 4+. The day of racing was concluded by the annual GCBC Ball, hosted at the Masonic Hall, seeing current and past members of the club come together to celebrate the season's achievements so far.

Training for the men’s and women’s squads turns to their respective Head of the River Races on the Tideway in London. The women’s race is on Saturday 8th March and is to be followed by the Alumni Dinner (please see the Alumni Facebook or LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/grey-college-boat-club/) for more details). The men will follow the women and race on Saturday 22nd March. The Novice squad is hard at work preparing for their first regatta season but all eyes will be on Novice Head on the 22nd February here in Durham.
