Information for non-medical support providers working with Durham University students
1-1 Meeting Space on Campus
If you are a support provider working with a current Durham University student, please note that students have the option of booking 1-1 meeting space in the Bill Bryson Library, should you need to meet on campus. Colleges can also be approached (by their own student members) to see if there is any available 1-1 meeting space if Library spaces are not available.
Attending in student's absence
Please note that, in most cases, if you are a note taker or scribe, you should only attend lectures / seminars if the student is present; please record if a student does not attend a pre-arranged session, and report this back to your agency. The only exceptions to this would be in situations where attendance in the absence of a student has been previously agreed via the student's DSA provision. This can be confirmed with your agency if you are unsure.
Queries / Concerns?
If you have any queries or concerns regarding a student that you are supporting, you can raise this directly with your agency. You are also very welcome to speak with one of our Disability Advisers about any concerns you might have; please be reassured that although the Adviser may not be able to share any information regarding a Durham University student directly with you due to Data Protection obligations, any concerns you raise will be appropriately managed and/or escalated.
Contacting us
You can contact the Disability Service by calling in (ground floor, Palatine Centre), emailing disability-support@durham.ac.uk or telephoning 0191 3348115. Please specify which Adviser you need, if you know which Adviser is working with the student you are supporting. We also have a Duty Adviser system with an Adviser available for drop-in queries every working day, so there will usually be someone available who can respond to any urgent enquiries / concerns.
