In May 2024, the Durham History Department hosted a workshop on ‘Asian Connections: Flows of People, Medicines, Ideas, and Practices’.

The workshop on ‘Asian Connections: Flows of People, Medicines, Ideas, and Practices’ was organised by the Thinking East Asia Research Cluster, and especially Sare Aricanli and Nick McGee. The event featured an international cast of contributors with an opening lecture by Chen Ming, Professor of South Asian at Peking University and a specialist in the history of medicine and Buddhism across Asia in medieval times. Geographically, contributions ranged from the Mediterranean through Inner Asia, China, Burma, Korea, and Japan and chronologically from the medieval times to the present. The organizers gratefully acknowledge the support provided by the History Department, Institute of Medical Humanities Measurement Lab, the Institute for Medieval and Early Modern Studies, and the International Office.
