[02/25] Former IHRR Co-Director, Professor David Toll presented an Interactive Technical Talk on Tropical Residual Soils to the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE)

Professor David Toll contributed to the latest (22nd) Interactive Technical Talk (IITT) on Tropical Residual Soils for the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The talk was hosted by ISSMGE President Dr Marc Ballouz with other contributions from Ahmed Chraibi, Morocco (Chair of Technical Committee on Tropical Residual Soils), Mwajuma Lingwanda (Tanzania) and Fathiyah Hakim Sagitaningrum (Indonesia). Dr Lingwanda is a former Global Fellow of IHRR.

Professor Toll presented the particular engineering challenges associated with tropical soils, such as unusual mineralogy, cementation by iron and aluminium sesquioxides and the difficulties in testing and classifying such materials.

IITTs are a new educational initiative by the president of ISSMGE. They bring together geo professionals from around the world, young and renowned, from both academia and industry, to discuss a certain topic of geotechnical engineering.
