Biography
Can Yang is currently a full-time PhD candidate at Durham University. She graduated from Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL),where she received four consecutive university-level comprehensive scholarships. She was recognized with honors such as Merit Student, Excellent Student Leader, and Excellent Graduate. During her undergraduate years, Can was actively involved in various student organizations,serving as the Vice-Secretary of the Technological Innovation Department in the Federation of Student Associations and as the General Life Class representative in the Faculty of Law. In 2023, she earned her Master’s degree in International Trade and Commercial Law from Durham University.
Can Yang worked as a judge's assistant in the criminal division of a Chinese court, where her responsibilities included recording evidence in court hearings, organizing files, and assisting with legal document preparation. She also interned as a paralegal at a Chinese law firm,gaining experience in handling contract disputes and bankruptcy cases.
Current research
Under the supervision of Mr. Christopher Riley and Prof. Daniel Attenborough, Can Yang’s research interests focus on comparative company law and corporate governance. Her current research examines the protection of minority shareholders, with a specific emphasis on enhancing the Chinese shareholder oppression remedies system by drawing insights from UK company law. Her work examines whether and how China has adopted aspects of the unfair prejudice regime from UK company law.
