TNA Networks for Change Funding
In the Autumn of 2022 with the pandemic having fundamentally shifted the focus and working
practices of both the archives and the education settings/communities that they engage with, the
Learning Arc members felt that this was an opportune moment to take stock and reflect on their
learning and engagement activity (as individual archives and a collective); the role that the network
currently plays and how that should develop in future.
In order to enable this reflection and ensure its robustness and effectiveness, Learning Arc
successfully applied to The National Archives (TNA) ‘Networks for Change’ funding stream to enable
them to conduct an independent piece of research. At this stage the focus was to be limited to their
work with education settings, with a view to extending this to engagement with families and
communities in future.
The research aims that have been identified are:
- To enable the membership to understand the structure and role of the Learning Arc
network and the complexities of the individual archive organisations within it, - To enable the membership to fully understand the network’s education offer (individual
archives and as a collective) - To enable the membership to explore the benefits of being part of the network as well as
the challenges faced, - To enable the membership to understand how archive learning professionals can best
support the needs of schools and educators (post pandemic), - To propose ideas and ways forward for the future of the network.
The research findings from this 2 year project is laid out below:
