Hild Bede redevelopment

March 2026 update

The University has been working with an external company to find a good redevelopment solution for the College of St Hild and St Bede site on Leazes Road. Our goal is something that will work for our students, our staff and also the residents of the area.  

Unfortunately, given the very challenging cost and nature of construction projects at the moment, it hasn’t been possible to take forward the current scheme with our preferred bidder.

The University has therefore taken the difficult decision to halt the procurement and bring the project to a controlled stop whilst we consider wider options.

We are committed to working towards finding the best outcome for the College and are considering the necessary next steps. 

In the meantime, the College of St Hild and St Bede continues to thrive in its current home at Rushford Court.
