Professor Catherine Cassell, Executive Dean (Business)

The Executive Dean is responsible for the strategic development and financial performance of the Business School. The School is a Faculty of Durham University and has four Departments: Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Management and Marketing. A key academic leader, supporting and enhancing research and teaching performance within the Faculty and an important ambassadorial role for the School and the University.

Professional background and expertise

Cathy became Executive Dean of Durham University Business School in September 2022, having previously worked at Birmingham Business School at the University of Birmingham. 

Previous roles include Deputy Director of Alliance Manchester Business School and Deputy Executive Dean of Leeds University Business School. Cathy has built an esteemed track record of leadership at senior levels in Business Schools.

An internationally renowned researcher in the field of organisational psychology with a particular interest in the areas of diversity, inclusion and organisational change.

Education and qualifications

Cathy has a PhD, and an MA in Occupational Psychology, from the University of Sheffield.
