Professor Kieran Fernandes, Executive Dean (Business)
Responsibilities
The Executive Dean is responsible for the strategic development and financial performance of the Business School. The School is a Faculty of Durham University and has four Departments: Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Management and Marketing. A key academic leader, supporting and enhancing research and teaching performance within the Faculty and an important ambassadorial role for the School and the University.
Professional background and expertise
Kieran joined Durham University in 2013 as Head of Department at the Business School and has since held several senior leadership roles, including Associate Dean for Internationalisation , Interim Executive Dean and, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Business Development.
Prior to his appointment at Durham, Kieran held academic positions at the Universities of Warwick and York, brining with him over two decades of experience in academic leadership and strategic development.
Kieran's research interests include operations management, innovation diffusion and complex systems modelling. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, a chartered Engineer (CEng, FIET), a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE), and a Fellow of both University College and the Wolfson Research Institute.
Education and qualifications
Kieran holds a BEng in Production (Mechanical) Engineering, a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering and a PhD in Engineering from the University of Warwick.
