Durham University spin-out Low Carbon Materials (LCM) has been named the BE100 SCALE winner at the Blue Earth Summit 2025, recognising its pioneering work in carbon-negative materials and global sustainability impact.

Low Carbon Materials (LCM) has been crowned the BE100 SCALE winner at the Blue Earth Summit 2025, standing out among the UK’s most innovative and impactful businesses. Selected from thousands of applicants, LCM impressed judges with its groundbreaking climate tech and global potential. Represented by Co-founder and CEO Natasha Boulding, the company secures a major share of the £600,000+ BE100 Fund to accelerate its mission.

Pioneering carbon-negative materials for a greener future
An Earthshot Prize finalist, LCM is pioneering carbon-negative additives that dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of concrete and asphalt. It was founded by Natasha Boulding, Phil Buckley and Scott Bush during their time as PhD students at Durham University. With support from Venture Lab and Northern Accelerator, they went on to become the first student-led Durham University spin-out.

Investment to drive global impact
Held annually, the Blue Earth Summit unites purpose-driven innovators, investors, and changemakers to inspire environmental and social impact. The new investment will enable LCM to scale production and extend its reach within the construction sector.
