About DUCC:
As one of Durham’s biggest clubs, DUCC caters for a range of cricking abilities. The top squads aim to provide the means for players to be able to achieve professional contracts and higher honours, whilst we also have winter training and matches throughout the summer for over 130 members.
The club has achieved significant success in both its indoor and outdoor campaigns in recent years. The indoor sides go into 2025 looking to defend their BUCS title for the fifth year running whilst all six outdoor teams have performed to a high level across both national and northern divisions in recent summers.
We are lucky to be one of the ECB’s six University Centres of Cricketing Excellence (UCCE) which allows the club’s performance squad opportunities to play against two first-class counties each season. Alongside these matches, we have run student-led preseason tours to South Africa and Barbados in the past two years, enabling further personal development.
Away from the training programme and summer matches, we host weekly socials - both smaller ones for each squad, and other events for the club as a whole. This helps create a welcoming and friendly environment throughout the club - something which we pride ourselves on. We are delighted to regularly welcome alumni back to Durham for some of our annual events, demonstrating how much enjoyment members get out of the club whilst at university.
We are also proud to be one of Team Durham’s most charitable clubs. Over the past twelve months, we have donated over £15k to our partners, including Sport in Action, Movember, The Ruth Strauss Foundation and Ranger Lab.
Facilities:
The Racecourse: The club is fortunate to call The Racecourse Ground its home. The ground was previously used by Durham County Cricket Club as a venue for their first class matches before the county moved to the Riverside Ground. In times past, it has hosted legends of the game and provides inspiration for those who play there today.
Maiden Castle Sport Centre: We benefit from unrivalled access to the state of the art facilities in the Sport and Wellbeing Park. The dedicated cricket hall contains five lanes, Merlyn and BOLA bowling machines, and a range of other equipment to enable the whole club to develop their game in the off-season. Teams train up to five times a week throughout the winter with constant access to a range of coaching.
Performance Gyms: As part of the winter training programmes, our Performance and Development squads are designated times to use the performance gyms at MC three times a week. This provides an opportunity to speak with PTs, who are experts in the sport, about how best to condition ourselves for the season.
