Abstract
Prior to the Covid-19 crisis, the integration of epidemiology and economics that is, economic epidemiology modelling (epi-econ), was relatively limited. The economic impact of epidemics was typically studied in the context of developing countries and their inherent disease burden. The emergence of the Covid-19 crisis has prompted an unprecedented surge in the so-called epi-econ literature. Professor Boucekkine will give a brief account of the factors behind this emergence and identify the main conceptual and modelling challenges involved in the expanding epi-econ stream, with a particular attention to the interdisciplinary issues. Recent extensions are also examined and a few future areas of research highlighted.
This lecture is free and open to all. Registration is not required to attend in person.
