IHRR Seedcorn 25/26

[02/26] The Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) is pleased to announce the launch of the IHRR Seedcorn Funds for Research and Outreach Initiatives for the 2025/26 cycle. These competitive awards are designed to support early‑stage research and public outreach activities that advance understanding and action in hazard, risk and resilience.

Applications are now open, with funding available for small‑scale projects that help researchers develop innovative ideas, test feasibility, and build collaborative partnerships. A total call budget of £16,000 is available, with individual awards of up to £2,000.

Supporting Early‑Stage Innovation

The Seedcorn scheme is funded by Durham University and the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience Donor Fund for Research and Outreach Initiatives. The programme aims to catalyse the development of new research pathways and outreach engagement that can lead to externally funded projects and meaningful societal impact.

The awards are open to researchers and students across Durham University working in areas connected to hazard, risk, and resilience—spanning physical sciences, social sciences, humanities, and interdisciplinary fields.

Encouraging Fellowship and Collaboration

All applicants are strongly encouraged to apply to become active members of the IHRR community through the Durham University IHRR Fellowship programme.

  • IHRR Fellows: open to any Durham University staff member
  • IHRR Associate Fellows: open to all Durham students

Fellowship offers a range of opportunities, including networking, collaboration, and participation in Institute‑supported events and activities.
