D Toll Excellent Paper Award

[01/26] Dr Ashutosh Kumar, Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR), has been recognised with an Excellent Paper Award by the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), the leading global professional body for computational geotechnics.

Dr Ashutosh Kumar (IHRR Visiting Fellow) has been recognised with an Excellent Paper Award by the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), the professional body for Computational Geotechnics. The awarded paper was co-authored with Dr Arash Azizi (formerly of Durham University Department of Engineering) and Professor David Toll (former IHRR Co-Director). The paper presents a suction monitoring setup developed at Durham University for cyclic triaxial testing. The equipment has been used to investigate the impact of weather-driven suction and water content fluctuations on compacted soils used for the construction of railway embankments in South Africa.

IACMAG's excellent paper award recognises excellent research contributions published through refereed paper(s) in archived journals. The basic aspects of the nominated research should be of high quality and may be in a wide range of subjects in geomechanics/geotechnics, including areas such as analytical or numerical methods, constitutive modelling and testing, and important practical geotechnical applications. https://www.iacmag.net/award-conditions
