[11/25] PARIS, France Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne welcomed Professor Bruce D. Malamud, Director of Durham University’s Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR), for a two-day visit from 27–28 November 2025. The meetings offered an important opportunity to explore avenues for deeper academic and research cooperation between the two institutions.
On Friday 28 November, as part of his two-day visit, Bruce delivered a two-hour presentation/discussion to the final year masters students in the programme "Gestion globale des risques et des crises" on the role of artificial intelligence in the context of hazards and risks. The session sparked thoughtful discussion and enthusiasm from students, who appreciated learning more about the science and the practical relevance of AI-driven approaches in risk analysis and resilience.
Across the two days, discussions with Paris 1 lecturers centred on the potential to develop joint research initiatives, student engagement opportunities, and broader institutional collaboration. The visit highlighted a shared commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to hazards, risk, and resilience, and reinforced strong foundations for future partnership.
Durham University and the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience extend their sincere thanks to colleagues at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne for their hospitality, thoughtful engagement, and commitment to future academic collaboration.
