'From Research to Site Management'

If we want to fulfil the double task of protecting exposed and vulnerable archaeological remains for future generations while facilitating research and sustainable touristic development of the excavation sites we need a systematic site management approach. Such an approach must address the archaeological site or cultural landscape as a whole. How are the historical remains to be made accessible for tourism? And, most notably, how can they be protected sustainably and adequately?

About the Speaker:

Professor Lüth is Director for Cultural Heritage Issues at the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut in Berlin. His research focuses on the northern European Mesolithic and Neolithic and he was an official German delegate to UNESCO’s 2001 Convention on Underwater Cultural Heritage. A former President of the European Association of Archaeologists, he advises the European Council on archaeological heritage management.
