Collaborative Links

Our Centre for Spirituality, Theology and Health (CSTH) works closely with the new Institute for Medical Humanities, the Department of English Studies, and the Department of Psychology. The CSTH has established good links with research groups and centres outside Durham, not least with the Centre for Spirituality, Theology & Health at Duke University, North Carolina. The Duke University Centre prioritises scientific research within the field and is recognised as the leading international centre for such research. The Durham CSTH emphasis on inter-disciplinary research involving theology is thus complementary to this.

Professor Cook has good personal links with Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust and with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Whilst these organisations are not formally a part of the CSTH, continuing partnership with them helps to ensure relevance to health care delivery. Similarly, Professor Cook’s work with the Church of England on issues of Mental Health and Sexuality provides pastoral and ecclesial engagement to the work of CSTH.
