Biography

My PhD project

For my undergraduate studies, I completed a BSc in Pharmacology before undertaking an MRes in Cancer studies at Newcastle University before moving to Durham University to continue in research. Throughout my PhD, I will generate female-specific skin models to evaluate the effect of occlusion on the skin and the inflammatory response it generates. The panel will consist of models ranging from young to old and the composition of these models will differ in contents to mimic the composition of models as they age. Aged skin models will have a lower amount of filaggrin as it naturally decreases over time, allowing me to represent different age groups effectively. I will work closely with P&G who aim to better understand the skin-product interactions for women’s intimate skin for academic and industrial research. Early intervention is a desirable approach to most therapies and is also the case with ageing, pre-clinical screening for factors that can intervene with the skin's ageing process could revolutionize how we approach anti-ageing treatments; developing techniques to facilitate early intervention is another area I hope to explore.
