Biography
Rui Fang joined the Engineering Department of Durham University for her postgraduate research in 2020, continuing from her MSc dissertation.
In her research, she aims to realize a dynamic structural colour tuning metasurface by adapting shape-memory polymer as a shape shifting nanostructure and machine learning as a method to optimize the design. This colour changing metasurface has the potential to replace traditional chemical dyes, mapping the road to a new generation, environmentally friendly smart wear.
Besides research, she also enjoys getting involved in life. She has taken the role of Treasurer of Hatfield College for 2020-2021 school year. She’s also a member of the organizing committee of the Engineering summer conference and seminar series. She enjoys music, traveling, food and drink and is looking forward to so much more in the coming future.
