Please read Durham University's Careers Events Terms and Conditions before reaching out to hold an event with us.

The university takes its legal responsibilities in relation to food safety very seriously. The University requires all guests who may be giving away any food items which include drinks and sweets to ensure they fully display all ingredients, noting that many pre-packaged multipack items and individually wrapped sweets will only have the required ingredient list on the outer packaging. This is a requirement even when the items are being given away for free. The Durham University Food Allergens Policy is provided for reference.

Please note that we try to avoid employer led promotional events on Mondays where possible.

Disclaimer

Durham University (Careers and Enterprise Service)  is committed to providing an impartial and inclusive service that supports all students to explore their career or entrepreneurial ambitions. On occasion, there may be businesses, industries and employers in attendance at an organised activity, event or fair with whom some of the university community might choose to demonstrate their disagreement.  We fully respect the right of students to express their views peacefully, and the University will take appropriate steps to manage any associated risks appropriately and proportionately.

Where appropriate, participating organisations will be asked to provide a risk assessment and ensure their representatives are suitably briefed and prepared for engagement with our diverse student community.

Employer-Led Promotional Event - Outdoor Library Square

Employers are becoming increasingly innovative with their campus activities, from interactive experiences and creative giveaways to eye-catching temporary structures and vehicle displays. It’s a great way to engage with students in impactful and memorable ways.

Best for:

  • Raising your brand profile across large numbers of students in a high footfall location
  • Engaging informally with students in a fun and interactive way
  • Organisations with a budget for more eye-catching and wide-reaching events

The standing charge for outdoor promotional events is £625 + VAT per day. This charge covers admin, advertising and pitch costs, including a complimentary advert in the C&E bulletin email issued to all students each week during term time.

If you would you like to have catering as part of your booking, the University will provide you with a list of approved vendors for you to select. For further details please see Outdoor Promotional Event Fees.

Employer-Led Promotional Event - Indoor Cafe Pop Up

Pop-ups are held in the café of the Teaching and Learning Centre in Durham University. You will be provided with a table and surrounding space to display a pull-up stand and a selection of branded materials. Best for:

  • Those who have never previously held a recruitment event on campus - this is a great introduction to your brand
  • Organisations who wish to raise their brand profile amongst students but who don't have the budget for a large-scale promo event
  • Chatting informally with students who may not have previously encountered your organisation

Presentations

In-person or virtual recruitment presentations are a great way to give an in-depth insight into your organisation and the opportunities available. You may wish to cover your graduate recruitment process, typical assessment day activities and the major attributes your company looks for, as well as highlight specific graduate or placement opportunities. These presentations can take place either virtually or on-campus during the lunch period, or off-campus during the evening.

Skills Sessions

Ever thought about running an event that gives students an insight into your organisation's application and recruitment processes? Skills sessions provide advice and guidance to students on the attributes your organisation looks for, what to look out for during the application process, and how to approach the interview. These sessions could include CV clinics, mock interviews or group skills sessions e.g. commercial awareness, teamwork, etc. If you have an alternative session in mind which is not reflected in the information on this page, please feel complete the booking form, selecting "other" event type and we will be happy to collaborate with you to run a bespoke event tailored to your needs.

Best for:

  • Employers who wish to maximise their investment into their recruitment & selection processes by highlighting and developing the skills which are required during application
  • Those who wish to enhance the core competencies of their future workforce
  • Organisations who wish to complement their usual recruitment events with an alternative that can attract a more varied audience

There is no charge to hold a presentation or skills session at Durham University.
