Use German language skills at work?
We want to hear from you!

Alumni are invited to share their experiences of how learning German has supported their career paths. This does not necessarily mean having studied German as a degree, experiences such as learning German at school, taking it as an elective during university, or using it alongside another field of study are equally valuable.

In particular, we would be very interested in hearing about your experience of working within, or in collaboration with, companies based in German-speaking countries, such as Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. We would especially welcome insights into how working in these companies, or with colleagues from German-speaking countries, may differ from other professional environments, for example in terms of workplace culture, communication styles, expectations, or professional practices.

The aim would be to briefly share your personal experience and insights with current students, helping them better understand how language skills and intercultural experience can support professional development and open up career opportunities.

We would be very happy to adapt the format and level of involvement to suit your availability.

Thank you very much for considering this invitation. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like further details. We would be delighted to hear from you.

Get in touch.

University student
As a proud Durham graduate, I volunteer my time organizing Durham alumni gatherings and speaking to prospective students about the incredible opportunities Durham offers. It's my genuine pleasure to encourage others to study at Durham - a choice that undoubtedly changed my life forever. Durham gave me the tools for a successful career, opened doors to new horizons, and built friendships that will last a lifetime.
