Winter Scholarships Appeal 2025

The Durham Inspired North East scholarship was established to help talented prospective students from low-income backgrounds in the North East to study at Durham.

Thanks to generous support from alumni, 11 students are currently supported by a Durham Inspired North East scholarship.   

This festive season, we are aiming to raise at least £16,000 so that an additional scholarship can be awarded next year. By making a gift, you could help another talented person come to Durham, when they might otherwise not go to university at all. 

The difference you’ll make 

Receiving a scholarship is truly transformational. The extra support could help a low-income student to: 

• Join a student club or society without worrying about affordability 
• Reduce hours in part-time work so they can focus on studying 
• Take part in personal development activities to strengthen their career prospects 
• Make friends and enjoy life at Durham, without worrying about affording basic living costs 

Belief and inspiration 

The scholarships not only provide vital financial support, but they are also a source of inspiration. Knowing they are supported by Durham’s alumni community encourages scholars to be the best they can be.
