Is the UK economy really as bad as we think it is?

On Monday 16 February 2026, Stephenson Ideas will host Professor Greg Thwaites for our second Stephenson Ideas talk of the term, in partnership with the Centre for Macroeconomic Policy at DU Business School. 

Greg Thwaites is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Nottingham, a Research Director at the Resolution Foundation and a member of the Board of the Review of Economic Studies. He is a CEPR affiliate, a CEP associate and a member of the Advisory Board of the GAP Institute.

Greg worked at the Bank of England between 2001-18, where his most recent job was as Head of International Research. Gregory has also worked as an economist for the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and the Independent Commission on Banking (the ‘Vickers Commission’).

The talk will run from 18.00 - 19.00 on Monday 16 Feb in the WB-0001 Lecture Theatre, Waterside Building, Durham University Business School, Riverside Place, Durham, DH1 1SL. All members of the DU community welcome.
