Biography
Anders Friis Marstand is a Professor of Leadership and Organizational Behavior at Durham University Business School. His research interests include leadership, psychological need fulfilment, and cultural fit. Anders' research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Personnel Psychology, Leadership Quarterly, Human Relations, and Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. His work has been featured in practice-oriented outlets such as The Conversation and Forbes.
At Durham University Business School, he currently serves as Director of DBA Education and previously served as Head of Group (Leadership, OB, HRM, OS) and Co-director of the Centre for Leadership and Followership.
He is a Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and Associate Editor at the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. He has taught courses on leadership, organizational behavior, and research methodology and taught at undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, doctoral, and executive levels.
Anders has extensive consulting experience in assisting organizations in a range of industries with building, restructuring, assessing, and developing their leadership and board teams to improve organizational performance.
In 2026, Anders received the Award for the "Best Conference Paper with Practical Implications" from the Academy of Management (AOM) Organizational Behavior (OB) Division for the paper "Being a Leader Is All About Growing Others".
Anders earned his PhD in Management from Aston University Business School. He received his BSc and MSc in Economics and Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School, MSc in Organizational Psychology from City University of London, and Master in Psychology and Education from the University of Cambridge.
