machinery on a sports court

The tired old tennis court is getting a new lease of life as a multi-purpose games arena, after a few years in the doldrums! The new MUGA will have new fencing, removable tennis net, integrated basketball hoops, and football goals and will also be suitable for netball. The work is being funded from a combination of alumni donations, College funds and JCR reserves and will greatly improve the facilities for our students.

This refurbishment project has been a priority for the College Trust and for the JCR since at least 2018, with successive JCR Presidents citing it as a manifesto pledge. The court has been looking increasingly dilapidated with no prospect of repair unless funded by College means.

We are very grateful that this project was made possible by unrestricted alumni donations gifted for student benefit. These funds have previously be used to support small grants to students and societies, and for the purchase of equipment such as a men's 8+ for the Boat Club. The allocation of £30k from this fund, plus £30k from accumulated bar surplus, levered an additional £30k from JCR reserves allowing this work to proceed.

The new pitch will proudly sport the Grey College logo and will be a showcase for the fantastic impact we can make with alumni donations and a collaborative ethos.
