Music Rooms

Our dedicated music practice rooms are located in the Parsonage, next to the Chapel and the LRC. Both rooms have either a Steinway K-52 or Steinway & Sons Essex upright piano. Additionally, Lower Parsonage has a Clavinova, guitar amps, vocal amplification and a full electric drum kit. Upper Parsonage has an electric organ and instrumental practice space.

There is also a Steinway & Sons Essex upright piano located in the Bailey Room and a Boston grand piano designed by Steinway & Sons in Leech Hall, alongside a full drum kit, that can be played by students.

The College chapel is home to the chapel organ: a small, electric action instrument of two manuals and pedals reflecting the neo-classical trend of the 1960s. It is available for use by John's students when a Chapel service is not taking place.

The Chapel Choir of St John's College

The College chapel is also home to the seventeen strong choir, who lead the singing during worship. They have been invited to sing at both Durham and Ripon Cathedrals, and are a regular feature on Radio 4's Daily Service programme. The College offers 16 choral scholarships to students who sing as part of the choir during their studies, as well as two organ scholarships.
