Accommodation - Undergraduates 2026 Entry

Living in University accommodation offers the opportunity to settle quickly into life at Durham, with accommodation located within or closely connected to your college community. This page explains how University accommodation is offered to new undergraduate students, what you need to do, and when offers are made.

Accommodation Guarantee

All new undergraduate students are guaranteed an offer of University accommodation, provided they indicate that they wish to receive an offer.

You are not required to accept the accommodation offer you receive. However, if you decline the offer or do not accept it by the stated deadline, the University cannot guarantee that a further accommodation offer will be available.

Submitting Accommodation Preferences

Accommodation preferences are collected through a separate accommodation preference form.

  • The form is emailed to allFirm and Insurance offer holders in early June 2026, following the UCAS reply deadline
  • All links to the form are sent directly by email
  • The form will remain open untilAugust 2026 (with the final date published in advance)

Within the form, you will be asked to:

  • confirm whether you wish to receive an accommodation offer (Yes / No); and
  • provide general accommodation preferences.

If you choose “No”, you will not receive an accommodation offer.

Accommodation Offers

Accommodation offers are issued once final allocations are confirmed.

If you receive an accommodation offer, you will be sent:

  • an accommodation offer andLicence Agreement, and
  • instructions on how to accept your offer.

To secure your accommodation, you must accept the Licence Agreement by the stated deadline.

If you do not accept by the deadline, the accommodation offer will be withdrawn and the room reallocated.

Disability Support and Adjustments

If you have a disability or medical condition, you are encouraged to disclose this as early as possible.

Confirmed recommendations from Disability Support are considered as part of the accommodation allocation process. Where reasonable adjustments are confirmed, these are applied where possible.

Adjustments are made to remove barriers to access and participation and are not based on personal preference.

Communication

All communications about University accommodation are sent directly to you by email. Please check your emails regularly and ensure your contact details are up to date.

Accommodation offers and outcomes are issued in line with the process set out above and cannot be negotiated or reconsidered outside this policy.
