Suicide - a Strategy to Make Durham University a Safer Place

To enable a positive and fulfilling experience at Durham, we want to ensure that every student is supported to enjoy good mental health and wellbeing.

In June 2023, we published Suicide: a Strategy to Make Durham University a Safer Place together with an action plan.

Our strategy covers suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.

To produce the guidance, we followed guidance from Universities UK’s Suicide-Safer Universities model.

We are taking a whole University approach as well as more targeted interventions. You can:

Training

As part of our strategy, we ask students and staff to undertake suicide awareness training. It’s free, only takes around 20 minutes, and it could help save a life.

If you’re a student at Durham University, you can access the student training.

If you’re a member of staff at Durham University, you can access the staff training.
