Do you love reading books but also enjoy the stories told by games? Are you a budding game designer on a quest for new sources of inspiration?

From Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher series to Thoreau’s Walden, there are many video games that adapt books – and our Festival Game Jam will level up your understanding of how written narratives can form the basis for playable experiences.

In a creative and collaborative workshop led by Department of English Studies academic, Dr Alistair Brown, you will work in small teams to take a specially commissioned short story written for Durham Book Festival by award-winning author of The Lamb, Lucy Rose, and brainstorm ways it might translate as a video game. The best briefs will be given to Game Design students at New College Durham, who will try to develop a playable prototype of your idea.

Suitable for ages 18+.
