''Dr. Rahmi Kopar is an assistant professor in Private International Law Division at the Law Faculty of Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, Türkiye. He teaches ‘International Investment Law’, ‘Introduction to Energy Law’, ‘International Energy Law’, and ‘Private International Law’ modules here. He completed his LLM at the University of Vienna in 2013 and his PhD on international energy investment arbitration in 2019 at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee under the supervision of Prof. Peter Cameron. He was awarded a post-doc grant by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK) and returned to the CEPMLP as a visiting fellow between August 2021-August 2022.
While conducting his PhD, he worked as an oil and gas law researcher at an international law firm in London. He has attended many national and international conferences and delivered presentations and talks on investment law, energy law, and arbitration subjects. He has been organising ‘Durham Energy Disputes Conference’ together with Prof. Volker Roeben. His monograph ‘Stability and Legitimate Expectations in International Energy Investments’ was published by Hart Publishing in 2021. He has edited the book ‘International Investment Law and the Energy Transition’ with Prof. Volker Roeben which will be published in February 2025.
Rahmi is a member of the editorial board of Global Energy Law and Sustainability (EUP) journal. He is a qualified lawyer in Türkiye and was called to Istanbul Bar in 2011. He acts as an arbitrator at the Energy Disputes Arbitration Center. Rahmi also is an academic coordinator at the World Energy Council-Turkish National Committee. He acts as a legal consultant in international commercial and investment disputes and has arbitration experience under ICSID, ICC, SIAC, LCIA, and ISTAC rules.
In addition to his mother tongue Turkish, he is fluent in English and he has intermediate level knowledge of German and Arabic.
