Durham Law School alumni return to share expertise at Summer School
Durham Law School recently hosted its third annual International Arbitration Summer School.
This year’s edition was taught by leading practitioners and arbitrators from around the world and gathered more than 20 students, who came to Durham from as far as India and the United States.
Durham Law School was delighted to welcome back, among esteemed guests: Durham Law School alum and 2022 Lawyer of the Year for Governmental International Arbitration, John Fellas; ICC Court of Arbitration member Wendy Miles KC; former Adjunct Professor of New York University School of Law and University of Pennsylvania Law School, Christian Leathley; and University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Durham Law School Professor and alum, Charles T. Kotuby Jr.
Networking
In addition to offering instruction on the theoretical foundation and principles behind arbitration, the course provided practical instruction, such as best practices in written and oral advocacy, the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and institutional rules. Attendees also had the valuable opportunity to network at a formal celebratory dinner at University College.
Professor Volker Roeben, Dean of the Law School, said: “Our thanks to the speakers of our third annual International Arbitration Summer School. They are Durham alumni who give their time and unparalleled expertise because they want to give back to the school that gave them so much. It underscores how important it is to engage more with our distinguished alumni.”
Opportunity to Connect
Durham Law School student, Siddhar Manavalahan, enjoyed his time networking with his fellow students and arbitration leaders.
He said: “It was a privilege to be a part of the summer school. I thoroughly enjoyed the engaging discussions and the opportunity to connect with fellow participants and esteemed faculty members. The course has been incredibly enriching, both academically and professionally. I look forward to staying connected with everyone and fostering the connections made during this course.”
