First-Year Undergraduate Prizes

THE HOGAN LOVELLS PRIZE IN TORT LAW is an annual examination prize established by a generous gift from Hogan Lovells. Each year, £2000 will be provided by the Firm to distribute amongst the top three undergraduate students in the first year undergraduate module of Tort Law - £1200 for first, £600 for second and £200 for third place. In addition to the financial award, the recipients will be invited, by Hogan Lovells, to visit the Hogan Lovells offices at a mutually convenient time.

THE HOGAN LOVELLS PRIZE IN CONTRACT LAW is an annual examination prize established by a generous gift from Hogan Lovells. Each year, £2000 will be provided by the Firm to distribute amongst the top three undergraduate students in the first year undergraduate module of Contract Law - £1200 for first, £600 for second and £200 for third place. In addition to the financial award, the recipients will be invited, by Hogan Lovells, to visit the Hogan Lovells offices at a mutually convenient time.

THE BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE IN THE FIRST YEAR PRIZE SUPPORTED BY HERBERT SMITH FREEHILLS will be awarded annually by the law firm Herbert Smith Freehills LLP to top three first year law students with the best overall performance. The student attaining the highest mark will receive £1200. The students in second and third place will receive £600 and £200 respectively. In addition to the financial award, the top ten students will be invited to visit the Herbert Smith Freehills Offices at a mutually convenient time.

LORD HUGHES OF OMBERSLEY PRIZE FOR LAW IN VAN MILDERT is an annual examination prize established by a generous gift from Lord Hughes. Each year, £600 will be provided to distribute amongst the top three undergraduate students of Van Mildert College in the first year of the LLB course. The student attaining the highest mark will receive £300. The students in second and third place will receive £200 and £100 respectively.

THE MR JUSTICE GOSS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LAW PRIZE is awarded to the top 3 first year Castle law students, £300 for first, £200 for second and £100 for third place. These students are also invited to visit the judge in a legal location.

THE EDNA SUGARMAN MEMORIAL PRIZE FOR LAW IN ST CHAD’S COLLEGE is awarded annually by Jason Sugarman KC to the top three undergraduate students of St Chads College attaining the highest marks - £300 for first, £200 for second and £100 for third place. These students are also invited to meet Mr Sugarman.

THE SLAUGHTER AND MAY PRIZE is awarded annually to the top three undergraduate students in the first year undergraduate module of Introduction to English Law and Legal Method. Each year, £2250 will be provided by the Firm to distribute amongst the top three undergraduate students in the first year undergraduate module of Introduction to English Law and Legal Method. Each of these three students will receive £750. In addition to the financial award, the recipients will be invited, by Slaughter and May, to visit the Slaughter and May offices at a mutually convenient time.

THE CLYDE & CO PRIZE FOR BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE IN THE FIRST YEAR (FIRST GENERATION LAW STUDENTS) is a generous gift of £1700 to be split between the top three first year students from amongst the 'First Generation Scholars Network', £800 for first, £600 for second, and £300 for third. In addition a workplace visit to be agreed.

THE TOBY HOOPER KC PRIZE Is awarded annually by alumnus Toby Hooper KC for first year students at Grey College. Each year, £600 will be provided to distribute amongst the top three undergraduate students of Grey College in the first year of the LLB course. In addition to the financial award, the recipients will be invited to meet Mr Hooper, in Durham or London, at a mutually convenient time.
