Chat GPT is My ‘Little Helper’

Academic lead: Dr Trevor james

DCAD lead: Candace Nolan-Grant

Collaborators: Dr Yan Birch, Dr Carla Chivers, Dr Nazire Duran, Dr Sophie Hodgetts

The project was conducted in collaboration with DCAD and aimed to explore how students use AI. Approximately 700 Psychology students across multiple Universities took part in a survey as well as qualitative interviews. Results indicated that AI is used in a variety of ways, from international students using it to improve writing fluency and neurodivergent students find it beneficial as a communication tool. Generally, students use AI to understand staff feedback on assessments. Whilst there is a strong demand for further guidance on the ethical and effective use of genAI amongst staff and students, generally it is not viewed as a threat to integrity.
