The Power of Enough: Eating Enough to Support an Active Life
As part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2026, Dr Lindsay Macnaughton, Associate Professor of Sport Nutrition in Durham University's Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences, is helping to raise awareness of the importance of fuelling an active lifestyle.
Many people understand the benefits of exercise, but fewer are aware of the risks associated with not eating enough to support both physical activity and everyday health. The Power of Enough explores Low Energy Availability (LEA) and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), raising awareness of how inadequate energy intake can affect health, wellbeing, recovery and performance.
The event will take the form of an interactive information stall at Maiden Castle Sport and Wellbeing Park, featuring resources, practical advice and evidence-based information to help active individuals understand the importance of eating enough to support their activity levels.
The stall will be available from 17 October to 7 November 2026, with opportunities to speak directly with researchers and learn more about the science behind healthy fuelling for sport, exercise and active living.
Researchers will be available at the stall on:
- Wednesday 21 October, 7.00am-12.30pm
- Saturday 24 October, 8.30am-12.30pm
- Wednesday 4 November, 12.00pm-4.00pm
Whether you're a recreational exerciser, gym-goer, runner, student athlete, or simply interested in healthy living, The Power of Enough offers practical guidance on supporting your health through appropriate nutrition.
