Sport and Exercise Sciences welcomes Professor Chunxiao Li as Honorary Professor

Professor Li is a Professor in the School of Physical Education and Sports Science at South China Normal University, China, and is internationally recognised for his research in adapted physical activity, disability inclusion, inclusive physical education, and sport psychology.

His research focuses on understanding how physical activity can improve participation, health, wellbeing and quality of life for people with disabilities. His interests span the psychosocial aspects of adapted physical activity, disability inclusion and inclusive physical education, as well as motivation, mindfulness and burnout. Professor Li has published more than 110 peer-reviewed journal articles, has been recognised as an Elsevier Most Cited Chinese Researcher in the Sports-related Field for three consecutive years (2023 to 2025) and was elected a Fellow of the Asian Society for Adapted Physical Education and Exercise (ASAPE) in 2026.

An internationally respected academic leader, Professor Li has developed extensive research collaborations across Asia, Europe, North America and Australia. He currently serves as Deputy Director of the Expert Committee on Physical Activity and Health for Persons with Disabilities in China and is a member of the Fitness Advisory Committee of Special Olympics.

Professor Li's appointment strengthens the Department's international research profile and creates new opportunities for collaboration in disability inclusion, adapted physical activity, and health and wellbeing research.
