Nagoya is the fourth largest city in Japan, and is the capital city of Aichi Prefecture. Its university has roots tracing back to 1871 and is one of the largest and highest ranked universities in Japan.

Academic Information

Module Selection

Provided that students have the requisite academic background and language ability, there are no limitations for course selection.

Study Load

Minimum 15 (30 ECTS) credits per semester, or 30 (60 ECTS) per academic year. For more information, please see Nagoya Factsheet 2023-2024.

Language Requirements

Students have the option to take classes in both English and Japanese, provided they meet the language requirements. If you are a non native English speaker, you may be asked to provide evidence of language ability.

Academic Requirements

Students must have a GPA of minimum 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.

Accommodation

Students have the option to live either in University accommodation or private accommodation. There are multiple dormitories students can be assigned to, some are purely International whilst others have a mix of Japanese and International students. All accommodation is self-catered.

Type of accommodation offered: 

  • Single rooms in student dormitories, located either on-campus or close to the university.

Fees of on-campus/off-campus housing:

  • Approximately 25,000-45,000 yen per month, including utilities.

Maximum beds offered to every partner school?

  • Currently, all successful applicants are housed.

Insurance

Japanese law stipulates that all university students based in Japan must enroll in the country's National Health Insurance (NHI) program, which costs around 2,000 yen (£13) per month.
