To celebrate the hotly anticipated release of Jackdaw, we’re hosting a special screening and Q&A with some of the talented crew behind the making of the film. This event is primarily for final year Durham students considering a career in film, production and media industries, and is organised and hosted by North East Screen.

This event will start with a screening of the debut feature film from North East-born writer/director, Jamie Childs, followed by light refreshments, then a discussion panel and Q&A with some of the brilliant crew who worked on the film.

Confirmed panel include Producer Callum Grant, Editor David Fisher, Designer Matt Gant, Set Decorator Megan Nosaw, Script Supervisor Rachel Crawford, and Art Department Trainee Ailsa Hymers.

We recommend that students attending prepare questions for the discussion panel ahead of time to make the most of this great opportunity.

About Jackdaw

A former motocross champion and army veteran is now caring for his younger brother. Broke, he agrees to do an open water pick up of a mysterious illegal package in the North Sea. A resulting double cross and his brother's disappearance set him and his old bike on a violent nocturnal odyssey through England's northern rust belt.

The film stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man, Emily, The Haunting of Hill House) Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who, The Sandman, Victoria), Thomas Turgoose (Creation Stories, The Gallows Pole, This is England) and North East actor Joe Blakemore (The Third Day).

Jackdaw was shot on location in the North East of England in Hartlepool and the Tees Valley. The film received investment from the North East Production Fund, delivered by regional screen agency North East Screen on behalf of the North East Screen Industries Partnership (NESIP), as part of their ambitious plans to make the region one of the UK’s leading film and TV production hubs.

About North East Screen Crew Academy

North East Screen Crew Academy aims to increase the North East’s crew base by identifying skills shortages and implementing training and up-skilling opportunities within production. The organisation is working to develop an inclusive workforce in the film and television industry.
