Asian Access is a new residential programme supporting Year 12 students of Asian heritage in the UK, aiming to boost their confidence in applying to Durham University.

We encourage all students with ambition, merit and potential to apply and achieve the extraordinary at Durham. Almost one in five of our UK undergraduate students comes to us through initiatives designed to broaden access to higher education.

Asian Access offers an exciting chance for Year 12 students to explore university life at Durham. Activities include campus visits, academic sessions in Biosciences, Psychology, Finance, Law, or Politics, and a three-day residential summer school at one of our colleges.

Why should you apply for Asian Access?

If you're thinking about higher education, Asian Access enables you to experience college life, connect with peers and fellow students of Asian heritage, and engage in social activities. You will also receive additional support with the application process and transitioning from college to university.

Participants who complete the programme will be guaranteed an alternative offer from Durham University (subject-specific requirements apply).

Widening access and participation at Durham

We invest £14 million each year to help less advantaged students access and succeed in higher education. This includes collaborating with schools, charities, and partner organisations to increase educational opportunities for school pupils and the local community.

Asian Access is one of several programmes designed to help students succeed at Durham. Others include Destination Durham, supporting Year 12 students from North East England; NextGen Durham; and Space to Explore Potential (STEP), supporting Year 12 black heritage students from England.

We also offer grants for students from North East England, along with subject-specific scholarships and financial support. The Durham Inspired: Black Heritage Scholarships provide financial support to black heritage students as part of our broader Durham Inspired scholarship initiatives.
