To mark the 20th anniversary of the Institute of Advanced Study, this special public event asks a timely question: how can interdisciplinarity help us understand and respond to an increasingly complex world? The event will explore what interdisciplinarity means in practice and why it matters in the real world. The IAS Director, Professor Alexander Easton, will be joined in conversation by Dr Fiona Hill, Chancellor of Durham University, and Professor Susan Smith, President of the British Academy.
Abstract From climate change and artificial intelligence to global inequality, public health and democratic change, the most pressing challenges of our time are highly complex and rarely fit neatly within the boundaries of a single academic discipline. They demand new conversations between different disciplines, and use of multiple methodologies. These interdisciplinary ways of working can bring new perspectives to old problems, and new ways of thinking about our world and our place within it.
After the event has concluded, wine and canapes will be available.
