Ways to get involved in the CCS
There are different ways to get involved in the life of the CCS. All are welcome to join in our core activities on a regular or ad hoc basis. Everyone can:
- Participate in public lectures, conferences, and other public events, offered in person and online
- Access our online resources
- Subscribe to our mailing list to keep abreast of CCS activity and receive our termly Newsletter
If you would like a closer connection with the CCS, you may wish to become a CCS Member.
Become a CCS Member
We warmly welcome Durham University staff and postgraduate students who have an interest in Catholic theology / Catholic studies to become a CCS Member. Membership is free of charge.
What is a CCS Member?
Members will be part of the CCS community, sharing our aims to develop, champion and extend research in Catholic theology / Catholic studies.
Becoming a CCS Member is available to:
- Durham University Academic and Research Staff
- Durham University Postgraduate Students
- Under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the CCS Director, members external to Durham University who have an interest in Catholic theology / Catholic studies and who regularly participate in CCS events
What do we offer CCS Members?
- Opportunities for intellectual community
Invitations to CCS gatherings and regular events where you will meet researchers from across the University working in Catholic theology / Catholic studies and have opportunities to exchange research ideas, share insights, and develop new collaborative opportunities and research plans. - Research development and promotion
Opportunities to showcase and develop your research within the field of Catholic theology / Catholic studies. - A formal title and recognition
A formal designation which can be added to your university website staff profile, CV, and email signature. This can also be helpful to add to your research bids and proposals. - PGR network
If you are a Postgraduate CCS Member the CCS arranges regular social events, and an annual Early Career and Postgraduate Conference, an opportunity to give a paper on your research in a collegial environment.
What do we ask of CCS Members?
- Your research and related activity are connected to or aligned with Catholic theology / Catholic studies. This might be from a range of disciplines including theology, history, literature, music, sociology, philosophy, and anthropology.
- You participate in the life of the CCS, such as in the Catholic Theology Research Seminar (CTRS), in public events, offered in person and online, and in the twice termly staff Research Conversations.
- You talk to the CCS about current and planned research in Catholic theology/Catholic studies.
- You subscribe to the mailing list to keep abreast of CCS activity.
- Potentially proposing and coordinating CCS activities, contributing to the Distance Learning MA in Catholic Theology, or supporting PCR/ECR initiatives.
- You agree to being an ambassador for the CCS in University departments and networks, and to champion the work of the CCS in the church, locally, nationally, and internationally.
- You add your CCS affiliation to your DU profile.
How to apply
- If you are a member of staff, please complete this form and email ccs.admin@durham.ac.uk to notify the Team that you have submitted your application.
- If you are a postgraduate student / PhD candidate, please complete this form and email ccs.admin@durham.ac.uk to notify the Team that you have submitted your application.
- The CCS Manager will respond to all expressions of interest within a month of submission.
- Successful applicants will be added to the CCS Members email list and listed as CCS Members on the CCS website. They will have the title CCS Member added to their staff profile and will receive information on up-coming events and opportunities of relevance.
