Multidisciplinary Centre for Doctoral Training in Energy

Durham University's Multidisciplinary Centre for Doctoral Training in Energy (CDT) was launched in October 2009 and is one of the longest-running, largest and most successful CDTs at Durham University.

The CDT has admitted 114 students (Jan 2024) from eleven different academic departments across the faculties of science, social sciences and the arts. Originally funded by EPSRC, DEI has worked to ensure that the CDT continues beyond the original research council funding, now supported by Durham University and the DEI.

This supports students undertaking world-class research within a world-leading research group at Durham University. The CDT provides a wide-ranging, stimulating and effective training programme in all aspects of energy with particular emphasis on developing multidisciplinary perspectives and approaches to energy problems. It is DEIs aim to produce a cohort of highly employable, skilled and talented researchers who are equipped to deal with the multi-faceted challenges facing the energy sector and wider society in the 21st century.
