Abstract: As awareness of obstetric violence has grown, some women, particularly those with previous traumatic experiences of care, have turned to alternatives presented as safer, more respectful and more autonomous. Yet some of these services are provided by inadequately trained or unregulated practitioners, with serious consequences for women and newborns. In this seminar, Dr Gabriela Arguedas Ramírez explores the issues.
