July 2026. The Centre for Doctoral Training in Soft Mater for Formulation and Industrial Innovation (SOFI2 CDT) has held a two-day industry showcase meeting in York.
SOFI2 is a partnership between the Universities of Durham, Edinburgh and Leeds, funded in part by the UK's Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Partnership with industry was built into the training and funding model from the very start of the original SOFI CDT in 2014. Since then, the CDT has produced nearly 150 PhD graduates across the full range of subjects in soft matter.
At the meeting in York on 13 & 14 July 2026 we welcomed back some of our graduates to speak about their latest work at Croda, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Microlub and the Astbury Centre, and we heard a series of excellent presentations by current students in the CDT.
