Our award winning activities aim to encourage young people, their teachers and the wider community to develop their interest in science.

We work with communities, industry partners and hundreds of schools across the region to deliver science programmes, activities and events which build on our excellent scientific research and teaching.

STEM: Which Branch Will You Grow From?

As part of our NETPark project students from Framwellgate School in Durham were commissioned to create an inspiring DVD about STEM careers aimed at young people. The students were trained to use camera equipment, conduct interviews and edit the film.

Over 500 third-year undergraduate students have participated in the Science into Schools Module working with more than 130 local schools since 2006.
More than 4000 Year 9 and 10 pupils and their teachers from 42 local secondary schools have attended the last five Durham Schools' Science Festivals.
Over 2,900 young people from 170 schools and community organisations across the North East have been trained in our Science Ambassadors programme.
Over 71,000 7-11 year olds and their families have come along to Celebrate Science since our first festival in 2010.
