BA, MA, PGCE

Biography

I am a qualified teacher with over 25 years experience, including at Primary and Secondary level. I have taught Latin and Greek to A Level standard. I am currently the Network Coordinator for Classics for All in the East of England, and am a freelance education consultant and trainer. In 2021 I founded the Cambridge Greek Academy, introducing Ancient Greek to state school pupils, where we have so far reached over 300 students who would otherwise not have had any opportunity to engage with Greek.

My first degree was with the Open University, specialising in History and Classics. This was followed by a PGCE at the Univeristy of East Anglia, an MA in Classics (Ancient Myth and Society) at Trinity St. David, University of Wales, and more recently an MA in Linguistics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

I am working for this PhD on a part time and distance basis.

PhD Project

My research investigates the cognitive appeal and difficulties of learning Latin for autistic students. I am conducting surveys and interviews with teachers and school students to ascertain their views about pedagogy and the student experience of teaching and learning an ancient language from the autistic perspective. I am working with Prof Arlene Holmes-Henderson through CERES (Centre for Classics Education Research and EngagementS) and also with Prof Mary Hanley through the Centre for Neurodiversity and Development in the Department of Psychology.
