Professor Jacquie Robson
|Professor in the Department of Chemistry|
|Deputy Executive Dean (Academic Student Experience) in the Faculty of Science|
Royal Society of Chemistry Teacher Fellow for 2010/2011
Dr Robson graduated from Durham University in 1998 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry and subsequently undertook Ph.D. studies in the department, supervised by Professor Todd Marder and Professor Judith Howard and graduating in 2002. Dr Robson became a teacher through the Graduate Teacher Programme at the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle where she continued to teach for five years, eventually becoming Assistant Head of Chemistry. For the last four years, Dr Robson has been Head of Chemistry at Barnard Castle School.
As a Royal Society of Chemistry Teacher Fellow for 2010/2011, Dr Robson will be looking at using context and problem-based learning methods in undergraduate teaching, as well as other strategies to develop students' problem-solving skills. Dr Robson is also working on strategies to allow students to become more independent in their approach to their studies. To aid the transition between sixth form study and degree level, she will aim to assist undergraduates in developing their practical and mathematical skills, as well as helping with the integration of overseas students in the department. As a qualified teacher, she will be involved in many of the department's Outreach activities, including Dr Andy Beeby's successful Spectroscopy in a Suitcase project.
