Biography

Rawan Alwoheeb

Rawan Alwoheeb is a doctoral researcher examining head of state immunity before the International Criminal Court (ICC), informed by Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL). Her project questions the assumptions underlying the international legal framework governing immunity and considers how its development and application have been shaped by geopolitics and the distribution of power within the international legal order. It also explores the implications of these dynamics for international criminal justice and accountability for international crimes.

Rawan holds an LLB from the University of Leeds and an LLM in International Law from the University of Nottingham. Her wider academic interests lie in public international law, with a particular interest in critical approaches to international legal scholarship and the decolonisation of international law and international legal pedgogy.

Before commencing her PhD, Rawan worked as a Teaching Assistant at Kuwait International Law School (KILAW), where she coached the school's team for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. She is also a practising lawyer registered with the Kuwait Lawyers Bar Association, with professional experience across several areas of legal practice, including corporate and labour law.
