Biography

I teach German at the Centre for Foreign Language Study and convene the modules German Stage 2 and German Stage 3, and German Stage 4 Plus. I am a Fellow of the HEA and affiliated with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD Ortslektorin). In addition, I am Deputy Director for Student Engagement at the Centre for the Study of Ukraine.

I have a degree in Teaching German as a Foreign Language (Sumy Pedagogical University, Ukraine) and a degree in International Business (FH Reutlingen, Germany). After working in different companies in Germany, I moved to the UK and subsequently started to teach German as a foreign language, first at Cardiff University, and from 2015 at Durham University.

My background has led to a particular focus on German for professional purposes, which I support and promote as co-founder of the German for Business Network UK. Alongside this, I place strong emphasis on project-based and cooperative learning. In my teaching, I aim to give students a range of different authentic contexts in which they can develop and apply their language skills, linking classroom work closely to real-life and professional situations.
