The Employer Services Team – part of Careers & Enterprise

The Employer Services Team at Durham University is responsible for working with businesses of all sizes and from all industries to support you with recruitment into early careers roles such as graduate jobs, sandwich placement years and summer internships. We’re especially keen to support small and medium sized enterprises to access talent from Durham University, and run a series of events and activities throughout the academic year allowing you to meet and recruit Durham University students.

We’re always happy to spend time talking to you about how we can support your search for the next generation of talent, from advertising vacancies to supporting you to set up a graduate scheme, and everything in between!

Some of the services we provide to small and medium sized businesses include:

  • Supporting you to create engaging and attractive job descriptions
  • Providing free of charge interview and assessment space on-campus
  • Advising on recruitment timelines
  • Sharing intelligence about the skills, experience, interests and expectations of students
  • Advising on typical salary levels
  • Free of charge access to our annual recruitment events, including our career fairs
  • Supporting with recruitment into part-time roles for students in the local Durham area
  • Signposting to support available elsewhere in the University and externally

Laura Smith - Employer Services Manager

Laura is and generally the first point of contact for businesses interested in recruiting students from Durham University. Laura spends a lot of time speaking directly to businesses, providing advice, support and guidance around student recruitment, as well as managing the day-to-day activities of the Employer Services Team.

Ann Herzog - Employer Engagement Officer Ann is responsible for managing our vacancy advertising service and supporting employers with advice on job descriptions, salaries and targeted marketing of internships, placement years and graduate jobs. Ann also looks after businesses who are looking to recruit exclusively from Durham University with additional support.

Natalie Craig and Esther Banev - Employer Events Coordinators Natalie and Esther supports businesses to arrange and run recruitment events, workshops and promotional events on-campus and virtually. They are responsible for advertising employer events to students, as well as looking after our library of recorded virtual events that we make available to students. Natalie and Esther job-share the role of Events Coordinator, with Natalie working Monday-Wednesday and Esther working Wednesday-Friday.

Kathryn Addison - Fairs Coordinator Kat is responsible for managing a number of in-person career fairs throughout the academic year. She supports businesses with information and advice around suitable events, bookings and logistics, as well as managing digital content appearing on virtual exhibitor stalls. Kat also supports Natalie and Esther with other employer events during busy times of year.

Anita Lowe - Student Employment Coordinator Anita supports students into paid, part-time work while they’re studying. She organises our annual Part-Time Jobs Fair and spends much of her time supporting local employers to attract and recruit students into part-time roles. Anita also runs the Student Employee of the Year Awards, celebrating students working during their studies and the businesses that employ them.

Catherine Howe - Employer Engagement Administrator Cathi's role involves supporting the whole Employer Services Team with their activities throughout the academic year. Cathi gets involved in every aspect of employer activity and is happy to help businesses with general queries, signposting you to the right contact at Durham University. Cathi supports at all of our events and career fairs, and coordinates the team’s social media and marketing activity.

Sing Wai Cheung - Placement Year Assistant Sing Wai is responsible for coordinating all of the work associated with our team’s support for small and medium sized businesses. Sing Wai is a current Durham University student and has spent his placement year engaging with businesses and students, creating content and resources, building this Information Hub and organising the ‘Think Big, Choose Small’ SME Careers Week.
